Nearby the apartment there is a small interesting hike through the forests which leads you to the Varvara Waterfalls. Take some food with you because there is a nice picnic spot on the way.

More inland there are hiking opportunities in the region of Mount Holomontas. We read that there are 4 marked trails in the surrounding villages Vrastama and Taxiarchis, leading to a cave and showing you a panoramic view of the Aegean Sea and the peninsula.

Further away, but worthwhile the drive: Lake Kerkini, a real paradise for birdwatchers. It sustains a rich population of birds in regards to the number and variety, including rare and endangered species. The wetland is extremely important as a feeding area for predatory birds which nest in the nearby forests, as a hibernation point and intermediary stop for migrating birds as well as an area for reproduction for a large number of birds. Besides birds you can also spot turtles and even water buffalo.
