Founded in 315 BC, the city has always been a crossroad of civilizations, a place where the
East and West meets, where great cultures and religions have been mixed.
Thessaloniki is considered an open-air museum of Byzantine art, but it has also some
amazing Ottoman monuments and a few interesting archaeological sites.

The archaeological site of Philippi is a singular case of an untouched archaeological site with monuments in an exceptional state of preservation. It’s the most important archaeological site of eastern Macedonia, with characteristic monuments of the Hellenistic, Roman and Early Christian periods. In 2016 this site became part of the UNESCO World Heritage List.
